Balance is the key

Life is a balance between holding on and letting go.

A healthy lifestyle doesn't only mean, to eat in a healthy manner or exercise our bodies, it also means to keep our minds healthy.

Our mental health has the same importance as our bodies do.

The day I was able to realize this, my fitness journey made much more sense.

Yes it's important for us to push ourselves and have self-discipline, but that doesn't mean we have to resign to all the little things that bring joy to our lives.

Food

I have to be honest, at first, it was hard for me to understand the importance of balancing what we eat.

I've mentioned this in another post but, we might think that eating healthy is having to be on a diet. Which is not true!!

I don't even like that word if I'm honest.

We just have to learn to eat in a manner that will nourish our body but at the same time, we enjoy.

And don't forget, a balanced way of eating is including our favorite foods too. Just because we've decided to live a healthier lifestyle, doesn't mean we can't eat what we crave.

What has worked for me, is to give myself the weekends, as a free pass!

I mentally prepare myself from Monday-Friday to eat the foods that will bring me towards my fitness goals (which isn't hard for me).

Saturday and Sundays are the days I don't put so much pressure on myself. Those are usually the days that I get the opportunity to eat the foods I crave anyway, so it works out perfectly.

This mechanism has worked for me, but we all function differently. So let's just balance our foods however we'd like!

We can't forget that balance is key for every aspect of our life, not only what we eat.

Friends

Not everybody has chosen to live a healthier lifestyle. And that's totally okay.

We all have different goals and different mindsets.

I don't think that we have to resign to people we care about, just because they live a different way than we do.

Living a healthy lifestyle should be a decision we make for ourselves. This way, it depends 100% on us.

Hopefully the people we care about also make this decision for themself, but if not, then so be it!

My point is, we don't have to quit doing the activities we enjoy, like going out, hanging with friends, partying, etc. Just because we live a different lifestyle.

These are the activities that give balance to our healthy lifestyle.

If we have friends or family members that have also chosen to live a healthier lifestyle then that just makes our journey way more fun!

But I don't think it's a requirement.

Remember, it depends on ourselves and only ourselves to accomplish the goals we want!! :)
